The Top Three Videos

Based on my having watched an usually large amount of MTV lately (that is to say more than none). The best way to view these is usually to start downloading the video and then go do something else while it downloads for five minutes, then watch it.

1.

"Lose Control" Missy Elliot featuring Ciara

2.

"Question!" System of a Down

3.

"Mr. Brightside" The Killers".
There may be other and better streams of this, this is just the only one I could get to work on my computer. There is an original UK version of this video and it's just them in a dark room and I know "blahblahblah the US version is too flashy and they're probably commenting on the flashiness of videos here". But you know what? I don't care, it's awesome, and the UK video is boring, and all male musicians who look good in eyeliner should be mandated to wear it.

Alright, that's my too sense. I'm going to bed.

A Logical Reasoning Question

A recent study found that men are, on average, five points ahead of women in IQ. 80,000 IQ tests were given and an additional 20,000 students were studied. The scientists concluded that men were generally smarter than women and that these differences "may go some way to explaining the greater numbers of men achieving distinctions of various kinds, such as chess grandmasters, Fields medallists for mathematics, Nobel prize-winners and the like".

The above conclusion depends on assuming all of the following EXCEPT:

a) The IQ test is an accurate and objective assessment of intelligence, not subject to cultural or other biases.

b) Studies such as this one do not reenforce the idea that men are smarter than women, thereby effecting the confidence of women, who then do worse on IQ tests.

c) Women are not prevented from achieving distinctions by the limitations placed on them by an oppresive society.

d) No conclusion about "whether men are women are smarter" can be scientific and such a conclusion can only serve as a mouthpiece for bias.

e) The researchers do not have a predisposition to believe that men are smarter that keeps them from questioning the IQ test's worth for measuring intelligence.

What I did today

1. Put on an awesome, hip, Capitol Hill-esque outfit complete with boots.

2. Taught a sub-par class becuase my feet hurt so much from standing for 4 hours with the boots on.

3. Felt sympathy for all the teachers who had to deal with me in their class, ignoring them and talking to my friends cuz I thought I was so smart.

4. Sat in front of a VERY angry bus rider who complained the whole time about the bus stopping to pick up other riders.

5. Pulled together my courage, and approached a guy from the the bus who seemed cool adn nice and talked to him about the angry guy.

6. Said to the guy, "um, can I ask you something. No, it's too wierd, never mind." He was like, "no, ask". So I said, "I'm not hitting on you. I have a girlfriend. So I'm not hitting on you. But I don't have a lot of friends around here and you seem cool so I wondered if you ever wanted to hang out" and gave him my email address, adding that I "was TOTALLY fine with him never calling and I never want to hang out with someone who doesn't want to hang out with me and I am NOT hitting on you".

7. Asked his name, found out he moved to Seattle to be in a band, and ran away.

8. Decided I will do this at least once every day.

9. Ammended it to once a week.

10. Felt very proud of myself.

Things that are embarrasing to realize 2 hours in to teaching a 4 hour LSAT Prep class

1. That between the waist of your jeans and the bottom of your shirt is a wide bright-blue strip of your bright-blue underwear.

The Biased Condition

People who do research about the "physical differences between the brains of men and women" can bite me.

These studies tell us nothing except the biases and beliefs of the researchers. It is shocking to me that it is called science. What a perfect example of how, by defining the universe, we create it.

Every sentence should start with "Because men are good with tools" or "Because women are good at communicating". Clearly, these are very influential assumptions from which they are working.

This is just like the studies where children of divorced parents are compared to children of married parents to show who is better off, and better off always includes NOT GETTING DIVORCED. Ummmm...

Circular reasoning, people! I want to take these articles and show them to my LSAT class. They would have a field day.

I cannot believe that money is being spent on this stuff.

And all these people are reading this and then going off to create more "innate differences".
